2019-08-30 Test OrangeBot Motor Block

Motor Block:

The motor block has been designed to fit as much power speed and control as possible within the size specification for the Pi Wars (max width 225 mm)

This motor block achieve a maximum speed of about 30 [Km/h] a maximum torque of 240 [mNm] with a length of about 101 [mm] leaving a 10 [mm] margin per side.

The motor is equipped with an encoder. Crucial to provide precision to the controls. Precision is the first factor by importance in the design.

The scope of this test is to evaluate a vertical slice of the motor block design.

Components:

Motor 12V 1400RPM 240mNm Shaft 6mm Encoder

127mm by 30mm rubber Wheels Hub 8mm

Hub 6mm

Motor Theoretical Performance

Assembly:

Hub has been modified to fit the wheel. 4-40 screws have been replaced with standard M3
Wheel has been modified to fit the hub

Test Conditions:

12V5A power supply in two directions

Conclusions:

This vertical slice of the Motor Block successfully demonstrated the feasibility of the design while giving a glimpse of the performance that the robot can achieve.

The design can be scaled up to four motor blocks for the mechanical construction, concurrently, the design of the electronics can begin.
