1Abstract
Maze Runner is equipped with a standalone SEPIC regulator that takes in between 3.7 and 15V and generate a 5V 3A regulated output to power the Raspberry Pi.The regulator is more than capable to powr the Raspberry Pi, but is unable to power four servos alongside it.
2Objective
Add an additional regulator dedicated to powering up the servo motors, without weighting on the on the RPI regulator.3Install additional regulator
The additional regulator is a custom buck regulator that I had laying around. It's connected to draw power from the main fuses of Maze Runner.
The power regulator output is connected to a servo adapter. The adapter provide power to the servos from an external supply, while letting the control signals through.
This way, the custom hat only provides the control while an additional regulator takes on the burden of powering the servo motors.
4Conclusion
The fix succeed in allowing Maze Runner to power both the servos and the Raspberry Pi simultaneously from a single 3S LIPO battery.A future revision of the board is going to feature an improved regulator to make sure four servos can be powered without additional hardware.
